The "Tree Suite" came to fruition after a juxtaposed image of tree rings was located too close to an empty Spear project. This led to the idea of composing in frequencies in relation to where the tree rings fell on the image. The pieces within the suite focus on exploiting these tree harmonies all while exposing listeners to the auditory phenomenon of acoustical beating.
Larch, for bassoon and live electronics, was composed for Jacqueline Ellmauer and premiered on 30 April 2016 at SUNY Fredonia.
Wisteria, for flute and randomly accessed sounds, was composed for Emily Brown and premiered on 30 April 2015 at SUNY Fredonia
Mahogany, for soprano saxophone and tape, was composed for Jacob Swanson and is featured on his CD, Wired.
Redwood, for bass trombone and live electronics, was written for Noal Mclimore and will be premiered 30 November 2017.
